Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) 2021

We are pleased to announce that Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) 2021 at University of California, U.S.A.is now open for applications. The program is open to talented undergraduates studying mathematics, computer science, and related disciplines to work in teams on real-world research projects. The duration of the REU Program is nine weeks. RIPS-LA students will live in residence halls on the UCLA campus and will work at Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics (IPAM). Projects involve some math, statistics, data, and computing. The student team, with support from their academic mentor and industry mentor, will research the problem and present their results, both orally and in writing, at the end of the program. RIPS is a fully funded program that will cover travel and meal allowance, accommodation expense and stipend of $3500.

The student team, with support from their academic mentor and industry mentor, will research the problem and present their results, both orally and in writing, at the end of the program.

The REU program is nine weeks. IPAM provides each undergraduate student with a travel allowance and a stipend of $3,500. Housing and most meals are also included. RIPS-LA students will live in residence halls on the UCLA campus and will work at IPAM. Projects vary, but all involve some math, statistics, data, and computing.

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students, including current seniors and international students (Pakistani citizens are eligible to apply)
  • Should have a strong background and interest in mathematics
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to participate

Projects:

RIPS projects involve serious math and computing. Past projects have involved space mission design, crime modeling, machine learning, weather forecasting, digital image blending, quantum computing, finance, and more!
