Dear students,

We are pleased to share that the U.S. Consulate in collaboration with IBA-CEJ is organizing a filmmaking masterclass on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Students interested in attending filmmaking workshop are requested to register on the link by Wednesday, July 17, 2019 (4pm). You will receive an email confirmation for participation by Friday, July 19, 2019.

The masterclass will be led by Alix Madigan, Oscar-winning producer of the film Winter's Bone; and Maria Bozzi, film producer, director, and Senior Director of Film Education & International Initiatives at Film Independent. Their bios are attached for your reference.
- Alix Madigan - Academy Award winning producer, whose credits include Winter's Bone, Your Friends and Neighbors and Girl Most Likely
- Maria Raquel Bozzi - Senior Director of Film Education & International Initiatives at Film Independent

The following are topics that will be covered in this university masterclass:
1. Overview of Global Media Makers (GMM) and Film Independent
2. "What Makes a Good Script"
3. "Marketing and Distribution, Film as a Business, and the Future of International Distribution and Original Content"
4. "Creative Producers: Ways Producers and Directors work with Cinematographers, Sound Design, and Final Mix"

The workshop covers the entire gamut of a creative producer's role on a fiction feature film - from finding a good script and story to attaching the right elements, the director-producer relationship and their creative collaboration, raising and structuring financing and being strategic when it comes to distribution and marketing. This workshop will also provide a snapshot of modern distribution in the U.S., looking at various ways to market and distribute a film, including insight into the future of original online content distribution, such as Netflix.

This masterclass is presented by Global Media Makers, an innovative mentoring initiative that connects visual storytellers around the world with U.S. entertainment professionals through specially tailored mentorships, workshops and master classes. The program is a partnership between Film Independent, a Los Angeles based non-profit arts organization, and the U.S Department of State.
