Outgoing Students FAQs

1. When can I apply for Exchange programs?
Ans. Various opportunities come throughout the year. For programs in Spring, the applications usually open during September to November and for Fall, they are open between March-May. However, as and when declared the details of the opportunity are floated through an email from IRC office IBA, updated on IRC IBA's Facebook page and its website.

2. Am I eligible to go for international exchange, conferences, or other opportunities?
Ans. The eligibility criteria differs from program to program. When students are informed about a particular opportunity, the eligibility criteria is clearly outlined in the announcements as well.

3. How to I apply for an international opportunity?
Ans. The students who would like to participate in any international opportunities are recommended to attend the 'Information Sessions' which are conducted by IRC and should carefully review the program information of the opportunities that come before submitting their applications. The International Resource Center is always there to assist the students in the application process.

4. Will it take longer to finish my studies if I go for a semester abroad?
Ans. Not necessarily. If you are able to complete your courses and the require credit hours then you may graduate in time.

5. Are there exchange opportunities for graduates?
Ans. There are opportunities available for both undergraduates and graduates. IBA alumni are also sent some opportunities which they are eligible for.

6. Are these exchange programs, conferences, fellowships, etc. funded or not?
Ans. It depends on program to program. Funding details are also specified within the description of each program that is emailed to the students.

7. Does IBA grant scholarships for such opportunities?
Ans. Yes. Funding from IBA depends on merit-cum-need based criteria.

8. What is the procedure of getting financial support from IBA?
Ans. A Financial Assistance Form, which can be accessed through the ERP, need to be completed. An acceptance letter or screenshot of the acceptance email is required in order to verify the participation in the program. The case is discussed with the committee and the student is informed accordingly.

9. What do I do after I have been selected for an opportunity abroad?
Ans. Once you have been officially selected for the program, you can proceed to arrange for accommodation. Make your own visa and travel arrangements (sometimes IRC or the program organizers/sponsors help you in this process). Obtain suitable travel/health insurance if required and complete all your documents before applying for a visa. International Resource Center will be there for you throughout the process if you require any assistance.

10. How do I apply for my visa?
Ans. Once you have received your acceptance letters and have made up your mind to go, you need to apply for your visa immediately. You need to check the required document list from the website of the appropriate consulate/embassy and get your documents in order. It is highly recommended to apply for the visa as soon as possible! (Depending on the country, the visa process takes from 1 to 4 months).

11. Where and how do I get the nomination letter from?
Ans. An email has to be sent at samin@iba.edu.pk with the details of the program. The letter can then be collected from the IRC office from any of the campuses.

12. Who is the contact person for outgoing students?
Ans. Ms. Shehreena Dawoodani is the right contact person and she sits in both Main and City Campus. Students need to take an appointment before coming in to meet her. Her office hours are usually:

Monday to Thursday: 9:30 am to 1:30 pm @ Main Campus and 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm @ City Campus

Friday: 10 am to 12 pm @ City Campus

Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm @ Main Campus

13. Can I get my credits transferred from my courses abroad after I return to IBA?
Ans. Yes there is a possibility of getting some of your courses transferred from your studies abroad after you return. Please remember that the courses should be relevant to the program you are studying at IBA.

14. What is the procedure of getting course transferred?
Ans. An email with following details has to be sent at samin@iba.edu.pk:
1) Course name
2) Equivalent course at IBA
3) Course outline
4) Transcript
The case is then discussed with the committee and the students are informed accordingly.
