Writing Competition by Climate Tracker

Dear students,

We are pleased to share with you the opportunity to participate in a Writing Competition by Climate Tracker.

In this competition three articles are required to be written. After submitting these articles, applicants are eligible to win a writing fellowship along with a fully-funded trip to Germany. Writing fellows will be paid to deliver a certain amount of articles about certain topics. They will also receive personalized training by Climate Tracker and get help in refining their publishing skills. It is an amazing opportunity to grow as a writer and to collaborate with the Climate Tracker team.

The deadline for first submission/ publication titled "The Clean Energy Revolution" is Monday, July 31, 2017

Writing Competition by Climate Tracker

Since 2009 Climate Tracker has brought incredibly talented teams of young reporters to the UN climate negotiations, where they have infamously become known as Negotiator Trackers. Their combination of passion, insight and drive showed how powerful young citizen journalists can become.Over the years their programs slowly expanded until 2014, refining the understanding of the global media landscape.Then in 2015, one-on-one training, skills development courses and mentor ships were offered that helped hundreds of young journalists shape their national climate change debate. 58 webinars were created and training videos and published over 2000 articles around the world.This year they continue to connect with young people around the world through 7 different regional Hubs, acting as training grounds for young Climate Trackers around the world.

Eligibility

- Participants from all countries between the ages of 18 and 30 years old are eligible.
- There is one special set of Countries, and at least ONE PERSON will DEFINITELY BE SELECTED from the following Countries:

- Indonesia
- The Philippines
- India
- Ethiopia
- Nigeria
- Egypt
- Bangladesh
- Peru
- Pakistan
- Turkey

- But 4 other spots available for anyone in the world!
- Young writers from around the world are encouraged to write inspiring stories and to publish them in media, and five of them will be rewarded with a spot to COP 23 in Germany.
- The articles have to be on the suggested topic and recently published (from June onward), and should be news articles.

Application Deadline: A publishing window is the time a certain amount of articles are published about a certain topic. The 1st publishing time for this campaign is from the 1st of July to the 31st of July.

Application Procedure

- There will be 3 publishing windows, during which at least 1 article has to be written about a specific topic. At least one article has to be written on each topic to be eligible for our prizes. That means at least 3 articles in total have to be written:

- Topic 1 (1 July - 31 July): The Clean Energy Revolution

During the first publishing window, we encourage you to: (1) describe the importance of, and the opportunities for, clean energy in your country or region; (2) explain how the fossil fuel industry is having negative impacts on climate change, endangering millions of people, and (3) call out for a higher ambition in executing the well-underway clean energy revolution.

- Topic 2 (1 Aug - 31 Aug): Supporting Climate Finance

To ensure the well-being of future societies and to achieve the climate goals that have been set, we have to invest in the future. It's time to take up responsibility and make sure where our climate money is going.

- Topic 3 (1 Sep - 30 Sept): Climate and health
Climate change is impacting each and every one of us on a very personal level that many of us don't even realize, namely our health. With climate action, we have the chance to save millions of lives.

- Applicants should publish their articles on a news site, blog, newspaper, magazine. It can be at a national, regional, local or international level. Aim should be for the one with best outreach, and fake news websites should be avoided.

Winning Prize

A spot on Climate Tracker team at the 23rd session of Conference of Parties (COP23) in Bonn, Germany. Flight, accommodation, entry into the COP will be covered by the Climate Tracker team.
Other prices to win include online writing fellowships, for which you receive a stipend and personal guidance from Climate Tracker to write about climate change issues in your region.

Evaluation criteria
