Koto and Shamisen Performance by Ms. Sumie Kaneko at IBA Main Campus

October 09, 2018: It was a performance in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Center with IBA Karachi. Ms. Sumie Kaneko is a renowned music artist, who chose IBA as one of the destinations for her performance during her visit to Pakistan.

Ms. Sumie Kaneko, a Japanese Artist from New York, USA, has been playing the Koto and Shamisen, since the age of 5. At IBA, she sang multiple songs related to love. Most of these songs were composed in the 20th century. In the end, she thrilled the students and faculty with a beautiful performance of 'Sammi Meri' (a coke studio song) in the Urdu language.

In the words of Ms. Sumie, Koto and Shamisen are traditional Japanese music instruments. They are very close to her heart, as they take her back to her origin. She thinks of it as a contribution to her culture and country, as her audience gets more acquainted to the culture of Japan.

We appreciate the cooperation of the Cultural center of Japan in Karachi. Ms. Nida Ali and Mr. Arif, from the Japanese Consulate took out the time to arrange this performance in collaboration with IBA.
