Information Session - Scholarship and Education Opportunities for Masters and Doctorate Programs in Germany

"International Resource Center arranged an Information session on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 with Mr. Lars Bergmeyer, Director, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Information Center Pakistan. The speaker provided details of different aspects of application for Graduate and Post Graduate Admissions Application in Germany, primarily focusing on both the scholarships i.e. one administered via HEC and the other directly by DAAD.

Mr. Bergmeyer informed the audience of faculty members and students that there are more than 19000 degrees in Germany and out of which 900 are in English Language. Germany being a multicultural society in the heart of Europe has more than 400 higher education institutes. The German University System as he said is having Academic Freedom, hence student or researchers may choose any topic or degree of their choice without government intervention or censorship. He said that the rigor in studies of Germany with practical application can be estimated by the fact that students are required to start working on their research papers as soon as they start their degrees.

He informed students about different scholarships available in Germany with special emphasis on DAAD Scholarships. He explained the eligibility criteria and basic requirements for Masters, PhD, and Post-Doctoral studies. He also enlightened students and faculty members with some useful portals to use when planning to apply for scholarships such as Uni-assist, Central Gateway of studying in Germany, Subject based Customizable Ranking of Universities, Central Gateway for research in Germany, Research and institute explorer, Funding opportunities explorer, and PhD Options explorer. Moreover, he elaborated the Visa application and process, and assisted students and faculty members by answering their specific queries.

Overall the session was much fruitful and we look forward to arrange more information and counseling sessions for our students to stay updated with the opportunities."
