Information Session - Masters in Financial Economics, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford

The IBA IRC conducted an information sessions on Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 with our Alumnus Miss Sadia Shahid, MSc in Financial Economics program at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Prior to her MSc, Sadia graduated from IBA as a gold medallist in the class of BBA 2013. Currently, Sadia is working as Head of Strategy at colwiz, an Oxford University spin-out venture that aims to provide research intelligence to the world's leading research institutions and academic publishers using machine learning, and big data analytics.

In the session Ms. Sadia highlighted the different aspects that make up a quality application for MSc in Financial Economics (MFE) program at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She started with the quick facts and demographics of the program and students followed by the comprehensive overview of MFE Program and career opportunities it has to offer. After discussing the application rounds and deadlines for applications and scholarships, Sadia explained the admission requirements for MFE Program in Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She emphasized mainly on crafting an effective personal statement. She enlightened students with the dos and don'ts of personal statement by showing several examples and clarified the myths and confusions about personal statement. She extended this point into recommendation letters by suggesting that applicants also approach their professors who are the most relevant to MFE Program and who are also the most easily searchable online.

Apart from stating the requirements of admission process, Sadia took an interactive approach by narrating her personal experiences during the application process. She guided students about preparation of GRE/GMAT to get the desired scores in order to increase the chances of selection and scholarships, and also shared her personalized 40 days plan for GRE preparation. In the end she discussed details about different scholarship opportunities for MFE Program specific, Said Business School specific, University of Oxford as a whole specific, and other independent scholarships available. The session was followed by one to one counseling of interested students.

Overall the session was much fruitful and we look forward to arrange more information and counseling sessions for our students to stay updated with the opportunities.
