Dear Researchers,

The International Growth Centre (IGC) invites you to submit proposals for research projects relevant to economic growth policies in our partner countries in any of our four thematic areas: firms, state effectiveness, energy, and cities.

This is a special funding window that is restricted to our Research Affiliates and other invitees. You are, however, welcome to collaborate with any number of co-authors from outside this group. As usual, we particularly encourage collaborations with local researchers. The deadline for submission is 15th July, 2018. We expect the average project size to be £40-50,000 but submissions of smaller or larger projects are welcome. For contractual reasons, we can only accept short timeline projects, with end dates no later than June 30th, 2019. Proposals for running pilots, for proof of concept studies, for projects using existing data and for 'last mile' projects that build on existing projects to achieve greater policy impact will be strongly favoured.

This call for proposals is being run through the IGC Country Programme. The IGC operates in 12 partner countries throughout Africa and South Asia, and also runs a few flexible engagements in other countries. This call is restricted to research in these countries only. We will also not accept applications for research in India at this time, but will run an India-specific call later this year. Please see below for a list of eligibility criteria and countries.
All interested applicants are strongly encouraged to get in touch with the relevant IGC country office to consult about their research priorities and the policy demand for their proposed research. Proposals for research outside IGC countries, or that do not take into account these priorities and relevant policy demand, will not be considered.

Country offices allow the IGC to be distinctive among research funding initiatives in sustaining long-term policy engagement, and helping to ensure our work can be demand-led. They facilitate our work with partners, and deepen sensitivity to the political economy of policymaking. Conducting research in IGC partner countries comes with advantages - access to local research partners, datasets, and established, well connected country teams working to influence local policy. Projects in partner countries become part of the country programme, and engagement with country offices facilitates greater policy impact. For more info on the IGC country programmes - see here.

Eligibility criteria
     - Research must be based in an IGC partner country or flexible engagement country, EXCEPT India.
     - Lead author must be an IGC Research Affiliate, Research Programme Director/Lead Academic or other selected invitee. Co-authorship is open to anyone.
     - Proposal must take into account IGC country and research priorities
     - Project end date must be no later than June 30th, 2019. Short term projects, pilot work, or last stage work on existing projects will be favoured.

To apply, please fill out the attached application and budget forms, and return via e-mail to igc.research@lse.ac.uk by 11:59PM GMT, July 15th, 2018. We expect to make decisions by mid-August, and begin contracting approved projects by October 1st, 2018. Please direct any questions about the application process to the aforementioned e-mail.
